History:
The SBMU NRITLD (National Research Institute for Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases) is located inside Massih Daneshvari Educational Hospital (affiliated to SBMU), and it began its mission in 1992 under the name “Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases Research Center” (TLDRC); but in 1998, the hospital and TLDRC were integrated and the hospital was renamed as the Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases Treatment and Research Educational Center. Since the year 2000, there have been 10 research centers operating in this research institute. The Director of the Institute is Professor Ali Akbar Velayati, and his Deputy is Professor Mohammad Reza Masjedi.
Goals:
One of the goals of the SBMU NRITLD is to be outstanding in the production, and publication of new medical knowledge at the national level. Therefore, research and its integration with education is one of the main priorities of NRITLD. The institute, which is benefitting from the cooperation of the experienced and academic researchers, supports researchers in the promotion, design, initiation, discovery, and new innovations in lung diseases, so it can render its services to the society.
The SBMU NRITLD has obtained a lot of researchers from both the public and private sectors. The presence of these researchers has prepared a dynamic environment so it can prepare grounds for performing basic and applied researchers in lung diseases.
Internationally, the SBMU NRITLD aims to promote research collaborations and exchange opportunities in related universities for the academic staff and students. In line with this, the institute has signed different memoranda with international scientific centers.
