The NRITLD strives to play a role as an international leader in producing, applying and disseminating new medical knowledge in the world. Therefore, research is given high priority and is fully integrated with teaching activities.
Given the support of governmental and private sectors, this institute has attracted many researchers. Together, they have created a vibrant environment for basic and clinical research covering a wide range of lung diseases.
Internationally, the NRITLD has focused on promoting collaborative research programs and exchange opportunities for graduate students and faculty members with peer institutions worldwide. We maintain a wide range of official memorandums of commitment with organizations and universities around the world.
Outstanding areas of research include:
1. Chronic Respiratory Diseases (e.g., asthma, COPD), interstitial lung disease (ILD), Sarcoidosis, airway and pulmonary infections
2. TB, MDR-TB, TB/HIV (epidemiology, diagnosis and treatment)

6. Primary Pulmonary Hypertension, Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)

9. Clinical pharmacy including drug complications, producing new drugs and assessment of their efficacy
